Chilled Products
Designed especially for the cold chain delivery of chilled fish, meat and other foods. Coolseal boxes are rapidly penetrating the traditional expanded polystyrene packaging market. The flat-packed 100% recyclable polypropylene boxes are simply stacked or baled for collection or disposal after delivery of food.
Patented technology is used to seal the edges of the fibre free fluted material resulting in a strong yet extremely lightweight and hygienic pack. The driving force behind this new development is the ever more stringent packaging waste regulations and the rising cost, both financial and environmental, of disposal.
Although huge savings are being made by the receivers of Coolseal packaging, Tri-pack’s customers are also finding an increasing number of benefits such as savings on storage and transport costs and the elimination of breakages.
With the advantage of low tooling costs, Coolseal is easily adapted to suit individual requirements. Screenprinting in one or more colours will also ensure that the desired brand image is effectively presented.
Savings for processors
It is no longer necessary to reserve large areas of expensive factory space just for boxes waiting to be filled. Coolseal boxes can be stored flat and made up just in time at the packers. Coolseal is also tough which means an end to EPS breakages and bead blowing around and clogging factory drains.
Coolseal is in regular use for airfreight transportation from Iceland and elsewhere by road to British and European supermarkets. As well as delivering the fish in perfect condition, users of the system gain some very important advantages. For example Coolseal is up to 30% smaller than similar capacity EPS boxes. This produces significant cost savings especially for airfreight.
CoolSeal in-line Machinery
Tri-Pack hve worked with various machinery specialists to adapt existing tried and tested machinery , but adapted specially for CoolSeal. Our machinery partners have grasped the opportunity to work with Tri-Pack, recognising that CoolSeal offers a whole new market for them. Front of line; CoolSeal TrayPlast and bag inserter. This has been developed, sold and serviced by Niverplast of Holland. The machinery takes the flat CoolSeal tray, erects it and inserts the bag, and then presents the box on a conveyor ready for filling. It is reliable, labour saving, hygienic and cost effective.
Freemantle of Scunthorpe have cleverly adapted a standartd tray erector for coolSeal, by eliminiating the glue used in cardboard, replacing it with a hot air weld. This allows the trays to delivered falt, hopper fed, the Tray Erector then presents the trays ready for filling. This is not only very cost effective with no consumable costs, but also makes a strong rigid box. No diagonal creases, no gaps delivers a very neat tray. The machine can also make the lid in the same way, or of course this can be another end-of-line machine.
First Process of Norway are experts in creating turn-key packing lines in the pelagic industry. They have truned their expertise to CoolSeal, and offer a complete machinery package, incorporating not only their own but also other manufacturers machinery. Their own speciality is automatic lid application, and this has been sucssesfully tested for use with the lightweight CoolSeal lids.
We also have enterprising customers and distributors who have built CoolSeal friendly jigs, to assist with the speedy placement of the 4-corner lids.
Savings for recievers
At the UK processors or final retail destination, Coolseal can be easily dealt with in either of two ways. Re-Processed polypropylene is in very high deamnd i Europe with a vast array of applications for it. Who know, the bumper on your car may be re-cycled CoolSeal boxes!
- The flat empty boxes can be baled or simply palletised for collection by a plastics reprocessor. Polyproylene has a higher raw material value than EPS and reprocessing costs are significantly lower.
- Coolseal can be safely disposed of with general plastic waste its melt-flow index makes it very flexible in the wasste stream. Even this option generates huge savings, with skip hire costs slashed and lower landfill charges. This is because Coolseal when flattened has less than 10% of the volume of EPS. It is also inert and can be thermally recycled safely. and stable in landfill so it will not create dangerous soft spots where lorries can tip over.
Food approval
The sheet material used to manufacture Coolseal fish boxes is made from a propylene ethylene copolymer (polypropylene).
The base material in its translucent form is chemically inert and non-toxic.There are two additives white pigment (masterbatch) and calcium carbonate. Both are approved for direct contact food use.

Environmental Benefits
The easiest plastics to recycle are those which, like polypropylene, are from the polyolefin family. The material is simply granulated and reprocessed.
There is a ready market for the recycled material. Coolseal boxes are made from 100% polypropylene with no glue or staples. The small amount of printing ink and glue does not pose any problem to the recycling process.
The re-processed granules can be re-extruded into fluted polypropylene, but as this cannot be white it has numerous other applications in construction and horticulture for example.
No hazardous substances are produced during the recycling process.
